‘Gold plated silver’ is quite simply, a layer of gold that has been formed over a sterling silver base.
‘Black Rhodium plated silver’ is similarly, a layer of black rhodium over a sterling silver base.
All plated jewellery will show signs of wear over time so here’s a few tips to prolong the life of your plated pieces –
DO NOT CLEAN WITH CHEMICALS. Plating is more delicate than pure metals so wipe gently with a wet cloth to clean, avoid rubbing.
REMOVE AT NIGHT. This will reduce the extra rubbing to the skin and having an item on 24 hours may cause unwanted reaction through dirt and sweat.
AVOID CHLORINE AND HOUSEHOLD CLEANING PRODUCTS. Remove when in the shower and swimming as chlorine can permanently damage the colour of the plating.
STORE LIKE METALS TOGETHER. Different metals will cause rapid tarnish when in contact together.
